The Frank J. Harwood Initiative will support selected youth in a year-long, summer-to-summer cohort program beginning in 2027 that integrates outdoor adventure, meaningful mentorship, and intentional mental wellness.

Designed as a prevention and connection model, the program meets youth where they are, building belonging, resilience, and community so that every young person knows they don't have to face life's challenges alone.

Throughout the year, participants will engage in structured recreational excursions that foster confidence, emotional growth, and genuine human connection through the therapeutic power of nature, movement, challenge, and shared experience.

Licensed mental health professionals will provide developmentally informed guidance throughout the program, ensuring every participant has access to trusted support within a safe and encouraging environment.

Vetted First Responder mentors and their families will walk alongside youth, cultivating relationships that leave a lasting impact and honoring Frank J. Harwood's belief that sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer a young person is simply showing up.

“Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny."
— C. S. Lewis

No one is meant to walk alone,
we show up and walk beside them.

Mentorship is one of the cornerstones of the Frank J. Harwood Initiative. We believe that the right person, showing up consistently, can change the trajectory of a young life.
Hands packing outdoor gear for FJH Initiative programs

The FJH Initiative Mentor Program pairs youth cohort participants with carefully selected first responder mentors who bring lived experience, integrity, and a genuine commitment to the next generation. Every mentor goes through a formal application and vetting process before joining the program. This ensures that the adults walking alongside our youth are not only qualified, but truly aligned with our values of honor, service, and connection. Mentors show up not as authority figures, but as guides who know what it means to face hard things and keep going. Alongside licensed mental health professionals woven throughout the cohort experience, our mentors help create a community where young people feel seen, supported, and never alone. Your support makes this possible. Help us build what's next. Stay tuned for opportunities to participate in mentorship in the future.

Your support becomes
strength, guidance, and hope.
